Form 4 Science Laboratory Visit

Last Friday Year 4 visited the Senior School science labs to take part in activities with Senior School teachers Mrs Lea and Dr Horn. They carried out an investigation to discover which fruit or vegetable had the highest voltage and might make the best battery. The children inserted copper and zinc rods into each item and then measured its voltage using Voltmeter. They analysed their readings and found that there were some interesting results which gave them lots to talk about when forming their conclusion. They even measured their own voltage creating a complete circuit by holding the copper and zinc rods! The children then watched sparks pass between the electrodes on both an arc generator and Jacobs Ladder.

This was an excellent opportunity for pupils in Lower School to experience some high level Senior School science.
