Exploring Chinese New Year
The Ladybirds Class have been exploring shadows this week in their topic work on ‘Light and dark’ and were visited today by Kai’s Mummy who helped us find out about Chinese New Year by telling us a story using her wonderful handmade shadow puppets.
The Ladybirds absolutely loved listening to the traditional story of Nian the hungry dragon who ate up whole villages, and how he was eventually scared away by the colour red and the sound of fireworks.
Celene helped us to make our own stick dragons and we then acted out the story of Nian using red paper and drums to scare Nian away. What fun we had!
Thank you Kai’s Mummy for helping us to find out about the traditions of Chinese New Year.
