Junior School sport round-up

The Under 12 Boys’ Hockey team had their first 11 aside fixture this week, a progression from the 7 aside half pitch version of the game which is played below this age group. A most successful start it was with a fine 3-0 victory against Sir Roger Manwood’s Grammar.

Results were not quite as positive on Wednesday where the U13A team lost to Ashford but the B team rescued the fixture with another win. The U11A,B & C teams were without choristers this week which allowed us to play the talented U9 squad as whole team against opposition some 3 years plus older than them. Winning 2-1 with 2 minutes to go, they eventually lost 3-2 but by all accounts won technically on the pitch and off proved to be polite and respectful ambassadors for St Edmund’s Junior School following our JS PE mantra, ‘Discipline and Fun’ in that order!

The girls’ U13/12 netball had 5 teams out this week! Winning all but one against The Duke of York’s, the A and B team continue to impress on court with their excellent handling skills and movement off of the ball, proving too much for the opposition.

The U11/10 girls’ have continued to develop their cricket skills during this week and have been introduced to the concept of pairs cricket the format that they will probably stay with for now but they return next week to netball and matches against Spring Grove.

Girls’ cricket and yes girls’ football. Our Friday after school football club is growing in strength and of course, skill level. Thursday basketball fitness, wake up and shake continues to be well attended even though being an early start.

This week has seen the end of a programme of gymnastic work which Mrs Relf has delivered to Form 3. It was competition day on Wednesday morning, the whole class worked in pairs to deliver a routine of movement and balance. It was a tough job for the judges, Mrs Swatman and Mr Penn who after much deliberation chose Daisy and Alice for their interpretation of all of the disciplines taught and it was great to see Dr Margrett on hand to present the medals and trophy.

We have a full fixture card next week of hockey and netball but we would like once again to remind everyone, children, parents, grandparents and friends of the ‘Where’s Wally’ before school 1 or 2 mile fun run on Friday 29th, further details to follow.
