St Edmund's
Congratulations to the 1st Xl girls’ hockey team who overcame King’s Canterbury 2nd Xl, 2-0 on Tuesday evening. Goals from Alexandra Millard and Iris Mickleburgh sealed the victory after some superb attacking play and accurate crossing, coming across the D from the right. Our 2nd Xl played a very challenging fixture against the King’s 3rd Xl. The team worked incredibly hard, as ever, but the King’s defence was impenetrable, leaving the final score at 0-4. It was a similar story for the U15 girls this week too. However, some sterling defence kept the goals against to a respectable total, with Lucy Walker-Reid and Honor Hamilton West showing an immense work ethic. Katie Head played an intelligent game, scoring a fantastic goal to bring the final score to 1-5.
The U14 girls were totally on top in the first half of their game, versus the same opposition, leading 2-1 with an impressive first goal from Zoe Rogers from a well-executed penalty corner. King’s unfortunately moved up a gear in the second half and, although there were plenty of opportunities for St Edmund’s, the girls could not keep the King’s forwards at bay, with a frustrating end result of 2-3.
Inter-House badminton was a real highlight of the week. Each house fielded both a junior and senior mixed pair, with some houses providing plenty of different options. It was fiercely competitive but fun, with fast feet, devastating smashes and some sneaky drop shots! Warneford were the worthy winners of the senior title with Geri Ng leading the way. The junior competition was equally competitive and Watson’s pair of Felix Preston and Abi Stanfield held their nerve to take the junior trophy. Thank you to Dr Sotillo for her brilliant contribution as event referee.
The L5 were delighted to welcome some Year 12 BTEC dance students from Herne Bay High School on Wednesday morning.
They were treated to a performance of three contemporary dance pieces followed by a workshop in which our pupils listened carefully, worked hard and performed collaboratively with the HBH students in what was a truly social dance experience. Our thanks to Alison O’Neill, Head of Dance at Herne Bay High for sharing her knowledge with us.
