The Year 1 Class (Crickets) provides the opportunity for each child to discover, enjoy and exploit their unique individual interests and talents. They will have many chances to take pride in their own achievements and to feel a valued member of the wider school community. Teachers provide the essential support and encouragement that a child needs to develop their independence.
The Year 1 curriculum is broad, challenging and exciting and is based upon the National Curriculum. The core subjects of English and Maths are taught daily and high academic standards are expected. Topics are chosen with care to interest and stimulate the children and comprise history, geography, science, design and technology, music and art activities.
The children experience a variety of lessons taught by specialist teachers such as French, Swimming, PE, Music and Performing Arts. They also have the opportunity each week to visit the ICT suite in the Junior School.
Year 1 make the most of the wealth of local attractions to enhance their topic work and have a wide variety of guest speakers including local artists, Senior School staff and parents.
