St Edmund’s School is renowned for the superb standard of its Art Department, which encompasses various material-based studies under the following headings:
Fine Art: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media (2D and 3D), digital photography and computer graphics.
3D Design: ceramics (modelling, sculpture, pottery)
Photography: film and digital. Conventional darkroom techniques as well as computer-aided approaches. Pupils also have access to a purpose-built studio.

REQUIREMENTS FOR YOUR APPLICATION
- Awards are open to candidates entering St Edmund’s School at 11+ (Year 7), 13+ (Year 9) or at 16+ (Year 12). Candidates will be expected to sit the appropriate academic Entrance Tests.
- The Art examination will take place during w/c 16th November 2026.
- The Head Teacher of the candidate’s present school will be asked to provide a report on the candidate’s general progress and academic ability, as well as artistic ability.
- The examination will be in two parts:
- Part I, Portfolio: Candidates should bring a portfolio of recent artwork, including sketchbooks. The candidate’s Head Teacher will be required to certify that the work is the candidate’s own.
- Part II, Interview
SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA

Successful candidates will be expected to enter art competitions, to participate in after school Art sessions and study Art at GCSE. | Candidates are winners of national awards/competitions. |
| Candidates at 16+ must be predicted grade 7 or above in GCSE Art and present an outstanding portfolio of work. | Predicted GCSE grade 8 or above in Art subjects. |
| Successful candidates are expected to enter art competitions, participate in after school Art sessions, take part in art department initiatives and to study at least one of the A-level options offered by the Art Department. |
HOW DO I APPLY?
- Complete the online Registration form.
- Complete and submit the Art Scholarship form Year 7 11+ and upload any relevant reports and documents.
Scholarship Examinations, scheduled for w/c 16th November 2026, will take place at St Edmund’s School. Lunch will be provided for candidates.
Awards of varying value, offset against the tuition fees for both day and boarding pupils, are awarded in the categories of Academic, Art, Drama, Music and Sport. Where fees are still prohibitively expensive, annually means-tested bursaries can be awarded to supplement a scholarship.
