St Edmund's

Head’s Welcome & Ethos

St Edmund’s has a long-established reputation for outstanding pastoral care. This is our starting point. We believe if pupils feel happy, secure and supported at school they will naturally benefit from our outstanding educational opportunities and enjoy the wealth of stimulating extra-curricular activities on offer.

Teaching and learning here is driven by a combination of expert subject teachers, small class sizes and a culture of continuous learning.

Our academic enrichment provision is outstanding, encompassing regular lectures by visiting academics and our own teachers, our Curiosity Shop and Symposium seminars, a robust Scholars Programme, stimulating educational visits within the UK and internationally and intellectual immersion days (such as our recent Sixth Form Ethics Morning).  These are all designed to encourage a love of learning in our students, broadening their range of intellectual interests.

And on that point, creativity flourishes at St Edmund’s. Our Drama, Music, Dance and Art departments are rightly renowned for their outstanding teaching processes and achievements, not least our annual arts festival. However, creativity is celebrated across the whole curriculum, as innovative teaching approaches and individualised learning enable pupils to think independently and express themselves with confidence and originality.

We also look to develop the whole person. Our dynamic sports provision, extensive activities programme and exciting range of outdoor education opportunities enable pupils to develop vital qualities such as social responsibility, leadership experience, inter-personal communication and the ability to work in teams. Our leading role in the East Kent Schools Together Partnership has also been important in this respect. In consequence, our school produces remarkable young people. Pupils leave St Edmund’s as assured, articulate, thoughtful individuals who possess a strong social conscience and moral compass.

I hope that you will be able to visit St Edmund’s in the near future and experience for yourself the great strengths of our unique school
