Mr James Anderson

Housemaster - Watson

I grew up in Loughborough before leaving the Midlands for university in Bath, where I gained my degree. Much of my time there was spent on the hockey pitch, both playing and coaching, before graduating and working in the catering industry.

I later moved to Kent to study for my PGCE in Food and Design Technology at Canterbury Christ Church, driven by a passion for hands-on, practical teaching in a broad subject that opens many pathways for young people. I went on to teach at two grammar schools in Kent before joining St Edmund’s in 2013.

Since then, I have loved being part of a school with such rich co-curricular opportunities, and have been involved with DofE and CCF for most of these years—supporting pupils to try new things, push themselves further, and hopefully develop a love for the outdoors.

In 2019, I became Deputy Housemaster of Watson and was appointed Housemaster in 2023. Working with pupils and supporting them remains a true passion of mine, with many rewarding moments throughout the year.

Outside school, I can usually be found outdoors—walking my dog or paddleboarding on more relaxing days, or cycling and running through the beautiful South Kent countryside when I have a little more energy.
