A strong start to the Sporting Year

A strong start to the Sporting Year

January has been an exciting and competitive month for our sports teams.

The 1st XI boys’ hockey squad had an excellent start their season, with a 4-0 win over Ashford School.  St Edmund’s turned on the style in the second half, with 3 goals in 12 minutes to put them in a commanding position. An excellent drag flick from Will Surridge got the scoreboard ticking followed by goals from Charlie Gotke and Henry Goodwin. Caspar Barton Hodges put the game to bed with a 4th

A closely fought game against local rivals, KC, followed. A tight fixture from start to finish with a gutsy display to overcome the opposition 2-1 in the dying seconds. After a strong and dominant first half, Freddie Post finally got St Edmund’s on the scoreboard finishing from close range. Our defensive resistance came under fire in the second half and KC pulled one back, six minutes from time. St Edmund’s were determined not to waste an opportunity from a free hit on the edge of the D, which was taken quickly and fired into the far corner by Henry Goodwin.

The 2nd Xl showed excellent levels of fitness and commitment v KC too, and after a tight first half, the hard work paid with goals from Rafa Barton Hodges, Joseph Goodwin and Gabriele Scott Kilvert. A 3-0 victory.

The U15 squads are also out of the blocks with two fine wins over Ashford School; a 3-2 win for the A’s with Joey Burden and Rafa Barton Hodges slotting the ball home. Ed Courtenay Snipp, Richard do Carlton Moody and Oscar Farquar brought the B’s over the finish line to a 3-0 victory. Similarly, an incredible 9-1 and 13-0 win over Claremont School this week. Goals galore from Freddie Post.

The U14 netballers started with a resounding 25-5 victory over Sir Roger Manwood’s, and the U15’s fought hard to come away with a 13-12 victory. Outstanding play from Tabatha White, Millie Feakins, Angelica Docwra and Ami Watters led to fantastic interceptions and accurate shooting.

Lower down the school, the U13 B team and the U11 A and B team netball girls beat JKS with some fabulous passing and supportive teamwork all round.
