School News

THURSDAY 16th February

Our final day of skiing began with grey skies and challenging, icy conditions. However, after lunch the sun shone and the snow softened up allowing for better conditions.

Here are a few highlights from some of our Junior School boys.

“I’ve enjoyed skiing with my friends and doing the jumps on the piste.” Josh, Form 7.

“My highlight today was doing a 180° turn in the air! I was the youngest to do the jumps and went the highest!” Morgan, 7.

“Today was AMAZING! We learned how to hockey stop!” Jay, Form 8.

“I’ve had an awesome day and have enjoyed skiing the different trails and the pistes all week.” Sonny, Form 8.

“I’ve loved doing the jumps in the snow park. I didn’t fall and I jumped quite high!” James, Form 8.

“My instructor said that I was the best at doing uphill turns. The last run was amazing because we joined up with another group.” Oscar, Form 8.

Tomorrow, we depart Mont Tremblant and head home via a shopping mall in Montreal. Overall, the trip has been truly memorable with many memories created and experiences treasured.

Many thanks to all the staff who have made the trip possible. Congratulations to all the pupils for their excellent behaviour and achievements throughout the week – you have all, from Form 6 to the Upper Sixth been great ambassadors for St Edmund’s. Roll on 2024!

WEDNESDAY 15th February

It has been another great day of skiing here in Quebec. The day began with bagels, eggs & bacon before heading out up the gondola for our 4th day of skiing.

The weather just about held in the morning session, and with the pistes being much quieter than at the start of the week, there were no queues at the lifts which enabled us to ski non-stop all morning.

Lunch has been taken since Monday at the summit of the mountain with hot soup, pasta and burgers being consumed amongst other dishes. The hot chocolate is also delicious!

The afternoon session saw a mixture of rain at the foot of the mountain and sleet, snow and hail the higher you went up which made the conditions challenging. However, all of the groups rose to the challenge with great success.

Apres ski activities consisted of a visit to the nearby swimming pool with water slides and hot tubs before a takeaway pizza night.

Tomorrow is our final day of skiing – we plan to make the most of the day!

TUESDAY 14th February

The sun has shone again today and the conditions have been excellent. Here are a few highlights from some of our Junior School girls.

“The best thing about the week so far was being moved up to a better group which was good as I got to go up to the top of the mountain on the steep slopes, go on bumps and jumps and go really fast! It’s also been nice to ski with my brother.” Lucy, Form 6.

“It’s been great to watch us all have fun, including watching us crash from time-to-time! We’ve perfected our turning technique with one leg in the air to help us balance.” Aggie, Form 7.

“It was really amusing when everyone went down the steep slope and we all crashed into each other like human dominoes. I also enjoyed doing lots of jumps in the Snow Park. We all laughed a lot!” Grace, Form 7.

“I’ve enjoyed exploring all of the new slopes and enjoying that I’m not falling over that much anymore!” Yasmin, Form 8.

“My best part so far was when I crashed into Yasmin at full speed (Yasmin was OK!) and we both ended up going down backwards at the same time!” Autumn, Form 8.

“I’ve enjoyed trying out the black run with the moguls bumping into one or two trees along the way. The ski instructor has been very helpful – he’s taught us how to ski backwards amongst other things!” Milly, Form 8.

More challenging conditions are forecast for the rest of the week but our pupils are ready for the challenge!

MONDAY 13th February

What a day it has been on the slopes!

It has been a tremendous day of skiing at Mont Tremblant today. The sun has shone all day, the snow has been superb & the temperature has been comfortable.

The day started with a hearty breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausages & bacon before heading out to our respective ski groups.

Everyone has had a fantastic ski. All groups have progressed to the top of the mountain and have made excellent progress finessing their technique.

Apres ski, we have had the opportunity to explore the village & take a dip in the hot tubs.

Sunday 12th February

Despite a long travel day yesterday, we had an early wake up call this morning in order to hit the slopes as soon as possible! First, we walked down to breakfast which consisted of potatoes, sausages, eggs plus a continental selection.

We then headed up the hill to have our skis fitted. Next, after much anticipation it was time to hit the slopes! Conditions were excellent with plenty of fresh powder on the pistes & the temperature being just under 0°c.

After a full day of excellent skiing, we then had some rest and relaxation time before heading out to dinner.

Overall, a terrific first day on the slopes!
