St Edmund's
Curriculum
Year 1 encourages children to discover more about themselves and the world around them. Pupils explore identity, creativity and tradition, considering how stories and ideas help shape our understanding of the world. They also begin to think about stewardship of the natural world, independence in decision-making and compassion for living things, building curiosity and confidence as learners.
School Life
Learning in Year 1 extends beyond the classroom. Music, sport, creative experiences and opportunities to explore the school’s wider facilities add richness and variety to the week. Children are encouraged to participate, discover what they enjoy and feel an increasing sense of belonging within school life.
Growing in Confidence
Year 1 is an important stage in developing greater independence. We encourage pupils to ask questions, have a go and recognise that mistakes are an important part of learning. Kindness, curiosity and positive relationships help children grow in confidence while feeling supported and valued
