Mrs Victoria Burton
Housemaster - Wagner
I have taught at St. Edmund’s for 17 years including 10 years as Head of Geography and 6 as Housemaster of Wagner. Born and raised in Lancashire, in a house that my parents lived in for fifty years, I moved first to Newcastle University and then headed south to take up my first teaching job in Woodford, Essex, a very long time ago. I still meet up with some of my first teaching colleagues in fact, and we celebrated our collective 30 years in teaching this summer.
Two of my three sisters still live in and around Preston with their families and although I prefer the weather in Kent, I do miss the north a little and enjoy any excuse to head back for fieldwork and D of E expeditions in the Lake District and Malham. Now I live in Folkestone with my husband and, intermittently, our three grown up children who regularly return to be fed and subsidised. I cannot imagine living anywhere other than by the sea now, and I try to swim in it as much as possible. We enjoy playing and listening to folk music, and spending time with friends and family in the creative quarter of the town at weekends.
This is a fantastic school with a wonderful pastoral team that I’m so proud to be part of. Leading Wagner House is a complete privilege and the pupils surprise me every day with their kindness, warmth and humour. George Coupe and I are blessed with a fantastic tutor team who work tirelessly to give their tutees the very best experience possible. We look forward to the year ahead. Go Wagner!
