About the Foundation

The Foundation is, in effect, 'a charity within a charity'. Its principal aim is generating much-needed funds for the overall enhancement and development of the school. The creation of the Foundation has been identified as crucial for the long-term future of the school. It helps the School fulfil its charitable objectives. It involves the whole school community by keeping them informed about the school's achievements and plans. Through raising additional funds, it will assist the School in fulfilling its mission, allowing it to move forward, enhance its services, improve facilities and continue to strive for academic excellence.

"The Foundation's work is fundamental to implementing the School's long term strategy. As a school striving towards providing high quality education in a family atmosphere, the cornerstones of the strategy are to emphasise its distinctive values, deliver and enhance those values, increase its capacity to provide financial support to gifted pupils from families who cannot afford full fees and improve its estate.

Michael Terry, Chair of the Governors

The Foundation seeks to:

  • Help the School fulfil its mission, vision and long term strategy
  • Secure funding for a list of new and improved buildings and facilities suggested by staff and governors
  • Secure funding for a bursary and scholarship fund
  • Energise and involve the whole St Edmund's community in fulfilling these aims

The School's long-term strategy is to:

  • Emphasize its distinctive values
  • Deliver and enhance those values
  • Increase its capacity to provide financial support to gifted pupils from families who cannot afford full fees
  • Improve its estate
