About the Foundation
Until 1996, St Edmund's School was wholly owned and financially supported by the Clergy Orphan Corporation. However, the 1996 Charities Act led to the devolution of the corporation resulting in the School achieving full independence and taking sole responsibility for its activities whilst maintaining its charitable status.
For St Edmund's to maintain its position as a top independent school, with an excellent reputation, the need for regular investment and continuous improvement is essential. The School has, therefore, set up the St Edmund's School Foundation to assist funding future developments.
"The Foundation's work is fundamental to implementing the School's long term strategy. As a school striving towards providing high quality education in a family atmosphere, the cornerstones of the strategy are to emphasise its distinctive values, deliver and enhance those values, increase its capacity to provide financial support to gifted pupils from families who may require financial assistance and improve its estate".
Michael Terry, Chairman of Governors
The Foundation seeks to:
- Help the School fulfil its mission, vision, long term strategy and charitable objectives
- Secure funding to enhance existing facilities and develop new facilities as suggested by the Head, Governors and Staff
- Secure funding for a bursary and scholarship fund
- Build a stronger St Edmund's community by maintaining and encouraging involvement of former pupils, parents and friends of the School
