Michaelmas Concert Showcases St Edmund’s Excellent Musical Talent

St Edmund’s School hosted its annual Michaelmas Concert last night, bringing together performers from across the Junior and Senior Schools in a varied and confident programme.

The evening opened with performances from EKCO and the Junior ensembles, including Junior Strings, Junior Brass, Elementary Strings, and the Lower School Junior Choir. Their pieces ranged from traditional folk tunes to well-known favourites, all delivered with accuracy and assurance.

A series of instrumental and vocal groups followed, including the Saxophone Ensemble, Voces Ed’s, Musical Theatre Club, the Junior School Wind Band, and the Boys’ Choir, each contributing to a strong and well-paced first half.

After the interval, the Symphony Orchestra—joined by narrator Mr Robert McCrea—presented an engaging performance of Carnival of the Animals. This was followed by a sequence of choral and ensemble items from Senior Strings, the Junior School Choral Programme, Upper School Junior Choir, U5 Strings, Flute Ensemble, Chapel Choir, Clarinet Ensemble, and the Chamber Choir.

The Big Band brought the concert to a close with upbeat performances of Strike Up the Band and I Like It Like That.

The concert once again demonstrated the breadth of musical activity at St Edmund’s, with pupils of all ages delivering a well-prepared and thoroughly enjoyable evening of music.
