Dance at St. Edmund’s is a fast growing department dedicated to inspire, motivate and challenge pupils to create, choreograph and perform movement to the highest of standards. St. Edmund’s offers both GCSE Dance for 5^th form and Cambridge Technical Dance for 6^th form, allowing for our students to continue developing their dance skills throughout their career in the Senior School. Our dance program is not limited to our older learners. All pupils from Pre-Prep to Year 8 receive weekly Dance lessons, igniting pupils’ passion for the art form from an early age. Multiple performance opportunities are provided to all of our dancers, allowing them to engage with large audiences of over three hundred in our purpose-built theatre. We have close links with Laban Centre for Advanced Training, Canterbury Christchurch University, Herne Bay High School Dance Department, New Adventures and the Royal Academy of Dance, providing additional expertise for our Dancers.

REQUIREMENTS FOR YOUR APPLICATION

Dance Scholars will be expected to be dedicated performers, creators, choreographers and teachers, engaging in all scheduled dance lessons, rehearsals, performance opportunities and co-curricular activities. All scholars will attend Tuesday evening Dance Training; Sixth Form scholars will be expected to develop their leadership skills by teaching within weekly training. Dance Scholars will also be offered private lessons for audition preparation, extra fitness training and career advice throughout their time at St. Edmund’s.

Assessments will take place the w/c Monday 20 January 2025. 

Entries should be submitted by Friday 3 January 2025. Late entries may not be accepted. 

SCHOLARSHIP AUDITION

Part 1: A dance solo pre choreographed by the candidate, in a style of their choice, the duration of which should be a minimum of one minute and maximum of 90 seconds

Part 2: A set contemporary phrase, taught and assessed on the day.

Part 3: An interview with the Dance staff.

Part 4: An interview with the Head.

HOW DO I APPLY?

• Complete the online Registration form.
• Complete and submit the Dance Scholarship form and upload any relevant reports and documents.

Scholarship Examinations, scheduled for w/c Monday 20 January 2025, will take place at St Edmund’s School. Lunch will be provided for candidates.
