St Edmund's

275th Anniversary

In 1749, when we were founded, George II was King of England. At that time America, Germany and Italy did not exist as unified nation states and the industrial revolution hadn’t even started. Our school consisted of one pupil and was located in Thirsk, North Yorkshire. It wasn’t even called St Edmund’s! We began our existence as the Clergy Orphan School. How times and St Edmund’s have changed. We are now a school of 650 pupils and 200 staff. Edward O'Connor, Head
