St Edmund's
It is always a pleasure at this time of year, to hear about former St Edmund’s students who have just graduated from University.
Our Sixth Form experience – which balances academic rigour with exciting co-curricular opportunities and leadership development – is not just about securing access to the right courses at University. Crucially, it also equips our students with the academic skills, work ethic and inter-personal abilities to be successful during their degree courses and beyond. I wanted to highlight four students who exemplify this.

Congratulations go to Cameron who has just graduated from The University of Exeter with a First Class honours degree in Politics and International Relations. Cameron is also the recipient of the “Dean’s Commendation for Exceptional Performance”. This is a superb achievement and reflects consistently outstanding work throughout his degree.

Oli has just graduated from Loughborough University with an excellent First-Class Honours degree in History and International Relations. He was taught at St Edmund’s by our powerhouse History and Politics department of Mr Morrissey, Dr Gonsalves and Mr Symaka and was also a stalwart of our sports teams. He has worked extremely hard this year to get that coveted “First”. The picture below not only shows Oli with his mum Helena (our former Director of Sport) but also proudly wearing his Wagner House tie from St Edmund’s.
Closer to home, at the University of Kent, Catherine (a former Vice-Captain of School at St Edmund’s) graduated last week with a degree in Computer Science – Artificial Intelligence. Needless to say, this is a crucial and exciting development area across all aspects of modern life and the workplace and I look forward to hearing about Catherine’s future career as she progresses.

Also at The University of Exeter, Esme graduated this summer with a Drama Degree and received a “Commendation for Outstanding Contribution to Drama” from the University. Esme benefitted from the legendary Sell-Sykes teaching team during her time at St Edmund’s.
Esme said: “St Edmund’s prepared me for success through university through constant support when developing independent study skills and time management. I was encouraged to aim high in an incredibly supportive environment and was able to build the confidence and discipline I needed to excel in a university environment.”
Obviously, we are extremely proud of these talented and committed young people. The St Edmund’s Sixth Form experience plays a vital role in preparing our students for degree level study by fostering a culture of high expectations, offering varied learning experiences, and encouraging independence. It also nurtures confidence, curiosity, and collaboration—skills that, in the long run, are just as valuable as exam results. Our students leave school ready to thrive in university life.
