Business Studies & Economics

The skills and knowledge gained on our highly popular Business course are vital to young people making their way in an increasingly entrepreneurial and digital world, whilst studying Economics at GCSE or A-level rewards any pupil keen to extend an interest in current affairs.

The most important requirement for success in both subjects is a willingness to engage with the subject and enthusiastic participation. Our lessons are lively, with discussion, debate and ideas highly valued. We expect pupils to think, share ideas and opinions, question themselves and others, and approach lessons with an open mind.

Our teaching is geared towards capturing the interest of pupils and challenging them to become the best they can be. We celebrate equally high-flying A grades and hard-won C grades that help secure prized university places and success in postgraduate careers and studies.

To complement classroom teaching, the Department organises trips to A-level conferences in London and public lectures at Canterbury Christ Church University, and visits to the Bank of England and the UCL library. GCSE Economics pupils can also attend an East Kent Schools Together (EKST) Dragons Den-style event, which brings a competitive element to the subject.

Business is helpful for life, as it gives me a better understanding and awareness of how trade and commercial business works.” - Lucy, A-level Business
